The Hebron girls basketball team had a successful trip to Savannah as they went 2-0 on the brief jaunt to the Georgia coast. The No. 5 ranked Lady Lions took down No. 7 Calvary Day 72-39 Saturday afternoon in a non-region game held at Savannah Country Day. Calvary Day, who made it to the Final Four in last season’s Class A state tournament, kept things close in the first quarter as the lead changed hands several times. Hebron held a 21-17 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lions then ratcheted up the pressure. Hebron’s size advantage took its toll as the Cavaliers began to tire and were not getting any second looks off their misses. The Hebron bigs did a great job on the defensive glass in the period. Hebron outscored Calvary 25-6 in the second quarter giving them a 46-23 advantage at halftime. The damage had been done. Hebron won the second half 26-16 to produce the 72-39 final outcome. Five Hebron players scored in double figures led by Nicole Azar with 18 points. She also led the team in assists with seven, and had four steals. Carly Heidger had a double-double scoring 17 points while pulling down 12 rebounds. Jessie Parish put up 14 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Malia Fisher also had a double-double as she scored 12 points and had a game high 13 rebounds along with three blocks. Carly Fahey had 11 points, six assists and a team high fives steals for the Lady Lions. Hebron improves to 3-0 on the season while Calvary Day drops to 2-1. The Lions do not play again until next Saturday, November 23 as they’ll face Class AAA No. 3 ranked Greater Atlanta Christian. Tipoff is 1:00 PM at Parkview High School.
