The reigning Class AAA state champion Hebron Lions won their season opener in dominating fashion posting an 85-26 pasting of Class AAAAAAA Parkview Saturday afternoon at Lions Arena. The Lions’ defense overwhelmed Parkview from the outset, forcing numerous turnovers which resulted in points on the offensive end. Hebron led 27-4 at the end of the first quarter and took a 50-15 lead into halftime. The visiting Panthers from Lilburn didn’t have any answers for the deep Hebron lineup. The Lions outscored Parkview 21-2 in the third period leading to a shortened, six-minute fourth. This team put up 85 yet only two players scored in double figures. That’s depth. Double-double machine Kerra Butler led Hebron in points and rebounds as she put up 18 and 10 respectively. Amiya Porter scored 14 points and was 3-for-5 from three-point range. Three Lions, Nicky Daniel, Mia James, and Danielle Osho, scored nine points apiece. Daniel also added a couple of rebounds while James had four steals, four assists and three boards. Osho, making her Hebron debut, added three rebounds and a block. Aubrey Beckham scored eight points and led the team in assists with five. She also had four rebounds and two steals. Jayden Watts had six points and two steals while Camryn Register added three points for the Lions. Aniya Moodie and Megan Kim chipped in two points apiece while two freshmen scored in their first varsity game tonight. Alyssa Craig hit a three pointer while Kai Williams had two points and a rebound for Hebron who is 1-0 on the season. On Tuesday, the team will head down the road to Lawrenceville to take on Discovery, out of Region 7-AAAAAAA. Tipoff is 5:30 PM.
