The Class AAA No. 1 Hebron girls took on Class AAAA No. 3 Stockbridge this afternoon in the MLK Jr. Classic at Whitefield Academy and came away with a dominant 82-36 victory. The event featured some top teams from Georgia and nationally which attracted many coaches from universities across the country including Georgia Tech, Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida, Arizona State, Alabama, Central Florida, Mercer and Boston College to name a few. Although still a little sloppy per Hebron standards, to the layman, the Lions were impressive with their offensive numbers as well as the defensive effort which the talented Tigers had difficulty with all game. Nicky Daniel led the way for Hebron with a game high 17 points including knocking down five threes. Aubrey Beckham had 14 points, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks for the Lions while Kerra Butler had 10 points, six steals, four boards, and three blocks. Danielle Osho narrowly missed a double-double as she put up nine points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Aniya Moodie and Camryn Register were defensive pests as usual but also had some solid offensive numbers. Moodie scored nine points and had three assists while Register had eight points and four boards. Mia James had solid numbers as well scoring seven points while posting team highs in assists and steals with nine and eight respectively. The Lions return to region play tomorrow as they’ll travel to Monroe Area to take on the Purple Hurricanes. Tipoff is 6:00 PM.
