Region championship game postponned due to snow

Due to today’s snow, the Region 8-A tournament championship game between Hebron and Lakeview has been postponed to Monday. Game time is 6:00 PM at Commerce.

It wasn’t pretty and it was pretty sloppy but Hebron took tare of business defeating Athens Academy 68-38 in the semifinals of the Region 8-A Tournament Friday night at Commerce. The game was full of fouls, turnovers and some uneven play by both sides. Hebron broke open a 5-5 tie in the early going with an 8-0 run to take a 13-5 lead. The Hebron lead quickly ballooned to over 20 and the Spartans never threatened. Ella Heard was a big highlight on the night as she co-led the team in scoring with 19 points including five threes. She also co-lead the team in assists with seven. Malia Fisher also put up 19 points for the Lions despite early foul trouble. Nicole Azar had 17 points, co-led the team in assists with seven and led the team in steals with six. Carly Fahey had nine points and four assists. for the Lions who improve to 27-0 on the season. With the win, top seeded Hebron advances to the region tournament championship game where they’ll face No. 2 seed Lakeview, at 47-45 winner over Tallulah Falls in its semifinal. Tipoff is 6:00 PM tomorrow at Commerce.

Hebron had no trouble with George Walton posting an 89-19 win over the Bulldogs in their first round game of the 2020 Region 8-A Tournament held at Commerce High School in Commerce. The Lions had four players score in double figures. Nicole Azar was Hebron’s leading scorer as she put up 23 points followed by Malia Fisher who had 17 points and four steals. Ella Heard put up 15 points and four steals while Carly Heidger had 11 points. Carly Fahey did an outstanding job setting up her teammates as she had a season high 13 assists on the night to go with seven points. Riley Warbington added seven points and four rebound for the Lions while Malia Melton chipped in six points and four boards. With the win, top seeded Hebron ups its record to 26-0 on the season and advances to the region tournament semifinals where they will face No. 4 seed Athens Academy (15-10). Yesterday Athens Academy defeated Prince Avenue 48-29 in its semifinal. Tipoff is 7:00 PM Friday at Commerce. image

Hebron travelled to Gainesville to take on Lakeview Academy this evening in a battle of teams that were undefeated in region play. Hebron won the battle posting a definitive 90-47 win over the host Lakeview Lions, securing the top seed for next week’s Region 8-A tournament. Hebron opened a 21-point lead in the first quarter and cruised to the 43-point win. Hebron hit a whopping 14 three pointers tonight as the bombs were falling from the sky. Nicole Azar led the Hebron scoring effort with 21 points including five threes. She also had five rebounds and three assists. Carly Heidger had a double-double scoring 19 points while pulling down 13 rebounds. Malia Fisher also had a double-double with 16 points and 14 boards. Carly Fahey narrowly missed a double-double of her own as she scored nine points on three three-pointers, dished nine assists and had four steals. Jessie Parish put up 13 points while dropping a pair of threes, and grabbed eight boards. Ella Heard canned three threes on her way to nine points and three assists. Sidney Whalen also connected from long range chipping in three points. Hebron completes the regular season a perfect 25-0, 9-0 in region play. Lakeview drops to 18-7, 8-1. Up next, the Region 8-A Tournament is on tap and will be held at Commerce High School. Hebron will take the court next Wednesday. Opponent and game time to be announced.

Hebron handed Tallulah Falls its sixth loss of the season and did it with long distance sharp shooting from multiple players. The Lions defeated Tallulah Falls 83-33 in a region game at Lions Arena in their last regular season home game. Hebron hit five first quarter three-pointers en route to a 32-11 lead at the end of the period. More of the same in the second quarter as the Lions enjoyed a 53-19 lead at the half. Both the third and fourth periods were shortened to six minutes. Five Lions scored in double figures tonight led by Nicole Azar who scored 19 points including three three-pointers and had six assists and four steals. Malia Fisher recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to go with four steals and two assists. Carly Fahey connected four times from behind the arc scoring 17 points while dishing a game high eight assists. She also had four rebounds and three steals. Ella Heard also hit four threes scoring 12 points, and had three steals and three assists. Jessie Parish also had a double-double scoring 11 points while pulling down 10 boards and dishing three assists. Carly Heidger added six points, four rebounds and two steals for the Lions. Four players combined for 12 team three-pointers tonight. With the win, Hebron improves to 24-0 overall, 8-0 in region. Tallulah Falls drops to 13-6, 5-2. Hebron wraps up the regular season next Friday as they travel to Gainesville to face off with Lakeview who is also unbeaten in region play. The winner will secure the top seed for the Region 8-A tournament. Tipoff is 6:00 PM.
