The Hebron girls basketball team had a successful trip to Savannah as they went 2-0 on the brief jaunt to the Georgia coast. The No. 5 ranked Lady Lions took down No. 7 Calvary Day 72-39 Saturday afternoon in a non-region game held at Savannah Country Day. Calvary Day, who made it to the Final Four in last season’s Class A state tournament, kept things close in the first quarter as the lead changed hands several times. Hebron held a 21-17 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lions then ratcheted up the pressure. Hebron’s size advantage took its toll as the Cavaliers began to tire and were not getting any second looks off their misses. The Hebron bigs did a great job on the defensive glass in the period. Hebron outscored Calvary 25-6 in the second quarter giving them a 46-23 advantage at halftime. The damage had been done. Hebron won the second half 26-16 to produce the 72-39 final outcome. Five Hebron players scored in double figures led by Nicole Azar with 18 points. She also led the team in assists with seven, and had four steals. Carly Heidger had a double-double scoring 17 points while pulling down 12 rebounds. Jessie Parish put up 14 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Malia Fisher also had a double-double as she scored 12 points and had a game high 13 rebounds along with three blocks. Carly Fahey had 11 points, six assists and a team high fives steals for the Lady Lions. Hebron improves to 3-0 on the season while Calvary Day drops to 2-1. The Lions do not play again until next Saturday, November 23 as they’ll face Class AAA No. 3 ranked Greater Atlanta Christian. Tipoff is 1:00 PM at Parkview High School.

The Lions made a five-hour trip to Savannah this weekend to take on Savannah Country Day and Calvary Day. Game 1 went well for Hebron as the team posted a 60-15 win over the host Hornets. Hebron led 22-6 at the end of the first quarter and 36-8 at the half as SCD had some difficulty with Hebron’s pressure. The Lions outscored SCD 24-7 in the second half to secure the win. Everyone contributed in this one as different combinations of players were on display throughout the game. Junior Nicole Azar led the Hebron scoring effort pouring in 27 points including going 5-for-11 (46%) from behind the arc. She also had a pair of steals and was the beneficiary of some nice dishes from Carly Fahey who led the team in assists with seven. Fahey also had four steals. Malia Fisher had a solid night with six points, six steals, five rebounds, five assists and two monster blocked shots. Jessie Parish added five points, five boards and two steals while Carly Heidger scored four points and had two assists. Ella Heard chipped in four points and two assists for the Lions who improve to 2-0 on the young season. Hebron will face No. 7 ranked Calvary Day tomorrow. Tipoff is 1:00 PM at Savannah Country Day.

Hebron officially kicked off the 2019-2020 season tonight defeating Chamblee 79-21 in a non-region game at Lions Arena. The Hebron press was on full display early as the team created its offense through its defense. Full court pressure caused turnovers which resulted in points on the other end. The press was called off midway through the first quarter however. Hebron, ranked No. 4 in Class 1A, led 35-4 at the end of the first quarter and 65-7 at halftime. The third and fourth quarters were reduced to six minutes. Hebron outscored the visiting Bulldogs 10-5 in the fourth while Chamblee won the fourth quarter 9-4. All Hebron players saw plenty of playing time in this one and 11 players hit the scoring column. Nicole Azar and Carly Heidger split high scorer honors with 18 points apiece. Azar also had five steals, four assists, three rebounds and a blocked shot, while Heidger had six rebounds, three steals and one assist. Carly Fahey added 10 points, and led the team in steals and assists with eight and five respectively. She also pulled down three rebounds. Malia Fisher scored nine points to go with six rebounds, four assists and a steal while Ella Heard had five points, two rebounds and two assists. Jessie Parish put up four points, two boards, two assists and two steals while Courtney Collins had four points. Riley Warbington, Anniston Bainey and Sydney Whalen added three points apiece while Malia Melton chipped in two points. The Lions are now 1-0 on the season with the win. Hebron will head to Savannah on Friday, facing Savannah Country Day on Friday at 5:30 PM and No. 7 ranked Calvary Day at 1:00 PM on Saturday. Both games will be held at Savannah Country Day.

The 2019-2020 Hebron Lions took the floor for the first time last night and walked away with a resounding 70-30 win over Class AAAAA Lithia Springs in a pre-season game at Oglethorpe University. The Lions raced out to a big early lead as the team was vey much in sync in the first half. Things got a little sloppy in the second half as the team did not quite have their legs under them. This will come in due time with more conditioning. Overall they were fun to watch and it was a promising exhibition game which should preclude an exciting season to come. Junior Nicole Azar led the Hebron scoring effort with 24 points to go with three assists and three steals. Junior Carly Heidger scored 18 points and had six rebounds while sophomore Jessie Parish had 10 points and six rebounds. Junior Malia Fisher added 10 points, seven steals and four assists while junior Carly Fahey led the Lions with five assists to go with seven steals, six boards and four points. Junior Ella Heard added five points for Hebron. The Lions play their first game for keeps on Tuesday as the Chamblee Bulldogs will visit Lions Arena. Tipoff is 6:00 PM.
