The Lions put on a display of elementary team basketball in front of a packed house tonight. Hebron defeated George Walton 78-18 in a region game at Lions Arena on the Hebron campus. It was appropriate given the large number of Hebron elementary school students and their families who were in attendance for Lower School Night. The girls were sporting new home white uniforms with pink lettering for cancer awareness, as well as pink shooting shirts with the names of individuals close to the players who have been affected by cancer. Benefitting from turnovers caused by their full court press, Hebron ran out to a 27-0 lead before George Walton got on the board. The Lions led 33-4 at the end of the first quarter and 53-6 at halftime. The third and fourth quarters were both reduced to six minutes as all Lady Lions saw plenty of action tonight. Four players scored in double figures led by Nicole Azar’s team high 19 points. She connected on five three pointers in addition to dishing six assists and two steals. Carly Fahey canned three threes on her way to 17 points, six assists, three steals and two rebounds. Malia Fisher scored 17 points, pulled down a game high eight rebounds, had four steals and three assists. Jessie Parish was the fourth Lion to score in double figures as she had 10 points to go with seven boards, three steals and two assists. Sydney Whalen added eight points, two steals and two assists for Hebron while Carly Heidger had six points, eight boards, two steals and two assists. Ella Heard chipped in three assists, two steals and two assists for the Lions who improve to 23-0 overall, 7-0 in region play with the win. Up next, Tallulah Falls pays a visit to Lions Arena in what will be the last home game of the regular season. It will be Senior Night but the Lady Lions will just be observers of their senior classmates on the boys team as there are no seniors on the girls varsity. Tipoff is 6:00 PM tomorrow night.

Hebron took to the court tonight for the first time in a week and the layoff showed. They recorded a 72-33 road region win over Athens Academy in a game where they didn’t get going until the second half. The lead changed hands several times in the first quarter with the teams knotted at 18-18 and the end of the period. The Lions seemed a step slow in the first period. About midway through the second quarter, Hebron stepped on the gas offensively opening up a 31-22 lead, outscoring Athens Academy 13-4 in the period. The defense ratcheted up in the second half and the offense became more fluid as Hebron outscored Athens Academy 41-11 to finalize the 39-point win. Jessie Parish had a solid night leading all scorers with 19 points to go with five rebounds and four assists. Malia Fisher put up 17 points, seven rebounds and five steals while Nicole Azar added 13 points and four steals. Ella Heard dropped three three’s on her way to 11 points and three assists. Carly Fahey scored six points and had a team high six assists while Carly Heidger chipped six points and a team high seven boards. With the win, Hebron improves to 22-0, 6-0 in region. Athens Academy falls to 12-8, 5-1. The Lions will next face George Walton in another region contest. Tipoff is Friday night at 6:30 PM at Hebron.

Towns County paid a visit to Lions Arena this evening and was handed an 81-32 defeat at the hands of the Lady Lions in a region game at Hebron. The Lions raced out to an early 22-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. Though Towns was able to break Hebron’s press a few times, the Lions were often able to get back on defense in time enough to disrupt what Towns wanted to do. The Hebron lead grew to 49-14 at the half. The Hebron offense continued to light it up in the third quarter outscoring the Indians 27-4 building a 74-18 lead at the end of the third quarter. The fourth period was shortened to six minutes. Hebron did a nice job tonight of not allowing Towns to run it’s offense as the Indians were never comfortable. The win avenged a 57-36 Towns win last season. Four players scored in double figures for Hebron led by Nicole Azar who had 23 points, five assists and two rebounds. Malia Fisher had a double-double with 22 points, a team high 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Jessie Parish had a solid night putting up 18 points, six boards, three assists and three steals. Carly Fahey also had a double-double with 10 points ten assists and seven steals. Carly Heidger added four points, four rebounds and a monster blocked shot for the Lady Lions who improve to 21-0, 5-0 in region with the win. Towns falls to 6-11, 2-2. Hebron doesn’t play this weekend and won’t play again until next Tuesday when they travel to Athens to take on Athens Academy in a region contest. Tipoff is 6:00 PM.
