Now that the 2022-2023 season has come to a close, it’s time for the post season awards to begin. The Gwinnett Tipoff Club and the Atlanta Tipoff Club both released their teams of the year this week. The Gwinnett Tipoff Club named Hebron and Brookwood as its Teams of the Year as both were state champions, Hebron winning big in its Class AAA title game over Lumpkin County, while Brookwood won a squeaker over Norcross in the Class AAAAAAA championship. Coach Azar and Brookwood’s Courtney Mincy were named Co-Coaches of the Year for the Gwinnett Tipoff Club. Three Hebron players, Aubrey Beckham, Kerra Butler and Amiya Porter were named All County by the GTC. Hebron, along with Brookwood, had the most players with All County honors with three. Porter was also Hebron’s representative on the Academic All County Team.
The Atlanta Tipoff Club selected Coach Azar as the Pinholster State Coach of the Year for Class A-AAAA. It’s her fourth such honor receiving this award also wining it in 2017, 2018 and 2021. It’s her sixth state coach of the year award overall as she won the Cremins Award in 2006 and 2010 when it was a combined award for all classifications. Now the state coach of the year awards are broken down between Class A-AAAA (Pinholser) and Class AAAAA-AAAAAAA (Cremins). Beckham was selected Second Team All-Metro Atlanta while Porter was Honorable Mention of this elite group. Congratulations to Aubrey, Amiya, Kerra and Coach Azar!
